Tildagon 2024 Dissembly Instructions

So you're upgrading to a new badge revision, and need to teardown your old badge?

We got you!

1: Remove screen

Hold either side of the screen connector, and pull the screen away from the main PCB - the screen module should just pull out with minimal force. Set this aside.

2: Remove frontboard

Using a PH2 screwdriver, unscrew the 3 screws holding the frontboard to the base board.

Once this is done, gently lift the two halves of the badge apart, then use a fingernail or thin non-metallic object to unclip the connector between the white cable and the baseboard.

Unplug the battery cable. This is difficult! DO NOT pull the wires, as this is most likely to pull the wires out of the connector entirely! Instead, grab each side of the battery connector with your fingernails or some pliers, and gently wobble the connector from side-to-side while pulling. After a few wobbles the connector should disconnect

You can now set aside your base board with the brass standoffs attached, and the 3 screws.

3: Remove battery and FPC from frontboard

The battery on the 2024 badge is glued to the front board using very strong glue dots. It also traps the ribbon cable underneath. Do not try to simply pull or twist off the battery as this can damage it.

To remove the battery, you will need to soften the glue dots. The most effective way we’ve found to do this is using a chemical solution to temporarily deactivate the glue and then gently twist the battery back and forth without bending it until it separates. This product works well, but we’ve also had success with 99% isopropyl alcohol. We will have adhesive remover on site during EMF 2026 so if you do not feel comfortable doing this at home or in your hackspace, just bring your 2024 badge to the event with the battery still attached.

Once your battery is disconnected set it aside. You can unclip the top board FPC connector from the white cable in the same way you did from the base board and set aside the white FPC cable.
